Donations bring big smiles

The best part of the St. Nicholas Project is that we connect donors with the Kurn Hattin Homes for Children. It's not just for an institution; it's for a child. There is nothing more thrilling for me than when a donor gets excited about a financial or material donation for the boys and girls at the children's home. Whether it's a donation of money to buy shoes or repairing and donating a used bicycle, clothes for boys, fancy dresses for girls, backpacks and school supplies--each and every gift goes to a real person. Granted, every institution needs money for its operating expenses and that is vitally important to be able to pay bills to remain open. And thank God there are donors who understand the importance of a large donation for large expenses.

Today, a man spoke with me about donating a gently-used bicycle for the kids. He explained how he was going to make sure it had air in the tires (and no leaks) and to make sure it was all clean and shiny because he knew how much a boy or girl there would appreciate it. He even explained to me what color it was. He had such a broad smile and eyes big with excitement. It made my day! I couldn't help but be excited for him, too!

With so many requests this time of year from various charities, it's easy to get cynical or overwhelmed. I know I get overwhelmed with so many requests from very good institutions coming in my mail every day. And, I always sigh, "If I only had more money..."

But for me, my number one charity is The Kurn Hattin Homes for Children because I have been able to meet the boys and girls there over the past 17 years. I've seen their faces and I know their stories and I also know the amazing staff that takes care of them.

It's an exciting time of the year--these weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's a time for broad smiles from you, our St. Nicholas Project donors, as your charitable donations to the Kurn Hattin Homes change the lives of children--one boy or girl at a time.

Please make a donation today with a big smile!!!
