Never too busy for the kids

(Guest blogger, Laura Duquette)

Do you ever feel like you have a hundred things to do and realize you have no idea how you'll accomplish it all? If you're like me, you probably have many things vying for your attention, some more pressing than others. We have all kinds of deadlines and life gets busy ---- there's work, meetings, bills to pay, groceries to buy, a house to clean, and now that Fall is here, there's yardwork to be done, too. It can get overwhelming!

I find it's always good to take time to try to get beyond our busyness and remember also to do what's fulfilling and appreciate what is beautiful in life. Maybe we call a friend we haven't talked to in a while or put on some music we enjoy. Maybe we share a meal with someone or carve out a few minutes to practice a hobby. We volunteer our time to help someone in need, or we stop to admire the foliage.

I often think about the children we support at Kurn Hattin Homes who have come from very difficult family circumstances. When they attend Kurn Hattin, there are so many things they can appreciate and they are grateful. There are caring teachers and houseparents, interesting classes, and opportunities to sing, dance and play an instrument. There are times for playing sports and games. There's also time for school and classes, homework and housework. There's beautiful scenery all around. Even with work, there are times for fun and times for helping others.

During one of my visits to Kurn Hattin, a little girl told me just how much she loved being there. The one thing she enjoyed the most was seeing the sun set every night in such a pretty place. Another child was happy to show me how they organized housework in their cottage and then later shared her love of drawing with me. Despite how full my own schedule gets, there are a few things that don't wait. One of them is my support of the children at Kurn Hattin! Even though I have a long list of to-do items, I appreciate knowing that I can help make a difference in kids' lives and that's important. Even though you're busy too, you can also make a difference in their lives! Won't you please remember the children at Kurn Hattin Homes this Fall with your donation?
